black man walked into his room in a Motel 6 in Sharonville, Florida, turned on the TV and experienced the most lame passive-aggressive act of racism ever. Someone took the time to send the hotel patron, Jospeh Ross, a message through the hotel television: “HELLO NIGGER.”
Ross did the right thing: he’s making a fuss about, because no matter how tepid, it’s illegal. But the TV-taunt was so lame that, depending on how tired I was, I might have just rolled my eyes and changed the channel. I mean how far do you have to surf to find a movie where racists had the gall to speak.
This stunt sounds like the work of the Orange County, California steak house employees who started giving one of their regular customers, a black businessman, receipts printed with racial slurs. Before he noticed it, Mark McHenry received at least 12 receipts saying “Mc StinkyNigger” and “McNigShit” and “McCottonwood.” Could the restaurant workers have conceived of an easier way to force their employer to give a brother a big settlement check? I think not.
